The Color of Justice Program – November 22, 2008
The Color of Justice program was developed by The National Association of Women Judges in August, 2001 to encourage girls and minority students to consider the law and judgeships as career goals. The GPWBA was proud to sponsor the program in conjunction with Newport News City Schools on Saturday, November 22, 2008.
The program was a huge success. Plans are already under way to host the program in 2009 in conjunction with Hampton City Schools.
The GPWBA extends it’s thanks to the following judges and lawyers who served so graciously as panelists:
Hon. Wilford Taylor, Jr., Hon. Bonnie Jones, Hon. Judith Kline, Cynthia Hudson, Esq., Veronica Sheppard, Esq., Darius Davenport, Sr., Esq., Adrienne Mauney, Esq., and Robin Rattley, Esq.
An extra special thanks to Vanessa Whitaker, Ed.D, for the wonderful facilities and to Jessica Tiegens and Papa John's for providing the luncheon.

Annual Charity Gala - March 31, 2009
Our Annual Charity Gala was held at the Point Plaza Hotel and Conference Center in Newport News. The event was a huge success. Approximately 1300 people were in attendance, and nearly $30,000 was raised, with all proceeds benefiting Transitions Family Violence Center, Avalon - A Center for Women and Children, and Newport News CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates. Thanks to GPWBA member Polly Chong, Esq. for her tremendous work.

Tribute to the Honorable William H. Shaw, III - June 18, 2009
On June 18, 2009, the GPWBA paid tribute to the Honorable William H. Shaw, III upon his retirement from the Ninth Judicial Circuit, Williamsburg Circuit Court. A special dinner was held in his honor at the Williamsburg Hospitality House. Among those in attendance were Judge R. Bruce Long of the Williamsburg Circuit Court and Judge Jeffrey Shaw of the Gloucester General District Court. Judge Shaw served the Ninth Judicial Circuit with great compassion and integrity, and we wish him well upon his retirement.
